Trustpower Community Awards Supreme Winner
Project Clutha has taken out the 2007 - 2008 Supreme Award at the TrustPower Clutha Community Awards.
The Awards were presented at a function held at the Rosebank Lodge in Balclutha back in May this year.
For winning the Supreme Award, Project Clutha received a framed certificate, trophy and $1,500 in prize money. The Trust now has the opportunity to represent the district at the TrustPower National Community Awards.
The TrustPower National Community Awards are being held in Wanaka in March 2008.
In total, TrustPower has given away $5,000 to various community groups throughout the region.
Project Clutha is made up of 15-30 year old residents from the Clutha district. After attending seminars and leadership forums they have established a group that will act as a platform for other young people, enabling them to voice their concerns and put forward their suggestions about the area.
TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Rebecca James says Project Clutha organised the very successful Clutha Leader Big River Fest 07. The focal events of the day were the Kai Point Coal Raft Race, The National Bank Duathlon, The Edwards Plumbing and Heating Hole in one Golf Competition, the free bouncy castle, the jet boat rides and the stalls.
The Project Clutha team put in a number of hours organising the festival. From sourcing the initial sponsorship and advertising, organising everything from clowns to portaloos and behind the scenes on the day then the clean up afterwards.
This group worked hard to create a festival the whole family could enjoy, says Rebecca.
Twenty seven local organisations and nine individuals were nominated for this years TrustPower Clutha Community Awards.
