We are very pleased to be able to hold the fourth annual Big River Festival. This year it celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Balclutha Bridge. An important landmark to not only the residents of the Clutha District but also New Zealand. This landmark is a famous icon of Balclutha, and what better way to celebrate it than running across it during the Subway Duathlon or floating underneath it as it marks the finish line for the Kai Point Coal Raft Race.

Project Clutha is made up of a small group of local residents who have the aim to make Balclutha a better place to live and work in. We want people to stop and shop here, and we want locals and their families to enjoy family days out and about – without it costing the earth. This is why we decided to re-establish the Big River Festival. We can remember being little ourselves and coming along to the river bank for something to eat and watching the mad men and women in the raft race being bombed with flour and rotten eggs.
We invite you to come and join us on Saturday and celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Balclutha Bridge, and cheer on the duathlon and raft race participants, even try your hand on the hole-in-one golf competition, you never know you may win $500 cash.

Over the past 4 years Project Clutha has been involved in the Christmas Variety Concerts, Sunday Market Days, and the most obvious makeover of the Town Hall Gardens including the infamous Clutha Country waving hand sculpture and flags.
Congratulations to Mandy and Steven Shearer on their one year anniversary, it was a privilege to be a part of your special day last year and we hope you are enjoying married life. Congrates and thankyou once again for getting married at the Big River Festival 2009.
